A Love Story, How God Pursued Me and Found Me took me by surprise. The book is not presented in a traditional chapter format and does not tell a timeline guided story; rather there are multiple excerpts from the author’s life that reflect on moments in her childhood and adult life that helped her come to find God and marvel at His ability to guide her and hold her during the most difficult times in her life. Traditional novelists may find reading this book challenging and for many readers, I think the best use of this book may be for self reflection, bible study, or as a daily devotional. Space is included in the back of the book for note taking purposes.
Samantha Chandler’s inspirational story of developing a strong relationship with the Lord against tremendous odds is uplifting and motivating. Her trust and faith aide her in surviving the most trying times of her life including abuse, poverty, divorce, and forced alienation from her children. The memoir reveals a woman whose story some readers will identify with and that others will be grateful to not have endured. Samantha exhibits common human faults, insecurities, fears, and limitations in the face of uncommon and severe adversity. Her ability to trust and rely on the Lord provides her with hope, promise, and an enlightening story to share.
The most touching parts of the book for me where those that touched on the idea that faith is the answer to fear. Knowing and trusting that the Lord is there with you and will continue to be there with you during the most difficult and trying periods of your life is a powerful and wondrous gift! There are many encouraging tidbits throughout the book for living life well and fully.
The author of this book has overcome a great deal of obstacles and has accomplished much good in her life. In addition to being a caring and devoted mother, she is also the co-founder of a non-profit group that links underprivileged children with doctors and surgeons that are able to provide them with desperately needed surgeries and medical care. I admire the author’s courage and tenacity, but regrettably found her book lacking in content and sustainability. Given the author’s vast accomplishments and faith, I had higher hopes for this book. The novel is a recipient of an Indie Excellence Finalist Book Award and I welcome all my readers to experience the book and form their own opinions. Additional comments and reviews are welcome! I have much respect for the author and wish her great success and continued blessings in her life.
