This month Mother Goose Time is all about Food and Fitness! We’re looking forward to learning about food groups, the kitchen, health, and fitness. Click here to see all the monthly themes for January – August 2016.
Daily Child Projects
“Food and fitness” is jam packed with wonderful craft projects. We’ll be making a paper strawberry, creating our own lemonade stand, and balancing on our very own tape balance beam! A quick pictorial overview of the crafts included in this month is shown below. Follow us on Instagram to see the finished projects 🙂
This month focuses a lot on building skills in the following areas:
- fine motor – controlling small movements
- number concepts – counting to determine quantity
- gross motor – coordinating large movements and building strength and balance
- self direction – maintaining attention
- logic – solving problems
Calendar and Daily Activities
Having a time race with vegetables, bandaging stuffed animals in our doctor’s office, and working on our balance are just a few of the fun activities we are looking forward to this month. The included story of the month is “How Are You Peeling? Foods With Moods” by Saxton Freymann and Joost Elffers. We also have a whole new list of suggested books and outdoor and free play ideas. We’ll be sure to share some of our favorites!
Each month comes with thematic manipulatives. This month, geoboards and play vegetables with a giant dice are included. Mom and Dad had a fun time playing with these while we set them up for the pictures and know the kids are going to love them too. These manipulatives are used in several of the Mother Goose Time activities and we are most looking forward to using them for sorting activities and making shapes.
We will also be focusing on the following concepts:
- Color – red
- Shape – heart
- Friendly Bee – kind
- Letters – J, L, G
- Numbers – 11 and 12
The month’s musical selections are inspired by disco. We’ll be listening and dancing to “Pizza Dough Boogie” and “Meatball Fall.”
Mother Goose Time always includes at least one Spanish activity to encourage second language acquisition skills. There are also flash cards available in online member resources that encourage the incorporation of Spanish vocabulary while engaging in the varied daily activities. The coloring sheets, also available online, provide the Spanish word for several additional thematic objects. This month they include vegetable, fruit, and milk.
Three different global friends arrive each month that encourage the children to use and more fully understand the world map that Mother Goose Time provided when we first started using the curriculum. Our new global friends are from Jamaica, Libya, and Germany. Each friend will introduce the kids to a new cultural element through pictures, games, or storybooks.
This month also includes a celebration kit focusing on Valentine’s Day. We’ll be creating a Valentine’s Day themed “Love Bug” headband that Ladybug is super excited to make and whipping up some “Spreading Love” snacks that Owl is ready to eat. There is also a heart matching game requiring letter recognition and a Valentine themed participation story complete with story pieces.
We will also be learning about “Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand” with Experience God (Christian curriculum add-on) and dancing to the music from our “Food and Fitness” CD with our new Dance ‘n Beats (dance and fitness program). The toddler is always included thanks to the Little Goose Program (toddler supplement). We hope you’ll join us on our adventures as we learn more about food and fitness!

Are you home schooling a preschooler?
I’m looking to connect with other parents who are homeschooling preschool and I’d love to hear from you!
As a blog ambassador for Mother Goose Time, I am happy to share preschool curriculum ideas, activities, and crafts with my readers. Mother Goose Time provides our family the opportunity to use their curriculum free of charge in exchange for honest and authentic stories based on our personal experience.
